Luzhkov Heritage museum
Kirill Berezhnov diploma project, 2019
Within the period 1990-2000 the new development, reflected a mirror-like the con-
struction of the new state, has begun in the center of Moscow and spread around
the entire city, while Yury Luzhkov was a mayor of Moscow.
The new districts appeared, as well as new “sightseeing, new landscapes. “ The new
typologies met the new requirements: the various types of housing for different social groups, the private banks and the corporate offices and the small companies for
the new businesses, the night clubs, casinos, the trading centers and the multi-functional complexes for new kinds of leisure time. The market received new materials
and technologies: curtain walls, composite panels, double-glazing units, and polymers. New architects, new customers, and new relations appeared.
The heritage of the transformation period has a fragile structure. But besides, the
transformation process itself could not be recorded. The classical preservation rejects the “not valuable” architecture. The construction erected with the use of modern materials could hardly overcome 50 years to pretend for conservation.
The question arises undoubtedly, what we have to do with all this?
I propose creating a Luzhkov-Era Museum by transforming two of the most ordinary building of that epoch, changing their appearance to emphasize the inevitability of disappearance of the architecture of that kind. Creating a Luzhkov Heritage preservation zone by allowing forbidden kiosks and casinos and etc. to appear and live in the interior of Luzhkov Heritage Museum, the only place for survival.
