Square theatre in Zamoskvorechye

Marta Abramova diploma project, 2022

The main idea of the square theatre is the theatricalisation of city life and the citizens.
The task of the project is to swap the actors and the audience, to make every action a stage, to bring the theatre back into the ordinary everyday life and turn the day into a 24-hour performance! The building is a stage box turned upside down, a huge theatre machine. Everything here is designed for holding and watching performances: each facade can be deconstructed and any decorations can be hanged on it, spaces for actors to play are provided in the body of the building, the balconies of the flats overlook the stage area, and in the western wing there are rehearsals, production of costumes and decoration. The square's cut rectangle is the city's main stage, where life becomes a performance. The residents come to rest watching the sound check and the setting being hung, the changing crowds of rehearsing dancers, actors and musicians, the workers replacing the marks to prepare the floor, and the lights slowly illuminating the square.
