The project is based on the idea of the relationship between architecture and earth and a reflection on the way underground life can be in an urban environment. At the beginning of work on the project, a building-seed was invented, which, growing in the ground, explodes, opening up the space to the outside. The principle of the "explosion", which creates something rather than destroys it, became the principle of the current project's formation.
The project site is located on Sadovnicheskaya Embankment, has a trapezoidal shape with an area of about 2 hectares, on its territory there are 3 pre-revolutionary houses of different purposes with a view to the embankment and the vacant lot in front of them. The seed was metaphorically planted in the centre and exploded the earth, resulting in a structure that is a multi-level pit, to which the sloping forms of the buildings gravitate like fractured tectonic plates.
The concept of technozёm was created, which is actually a type of urban soil, but in the project it has acquired a new meaning - created land. By definition, technozёm are artificial soil-like formations consisting of bulk layers. Here, technozёm is an architecture that represents the land, the landscape, rather than a 'building'. The ground line is centred, which enriches the viewer's spatial experience, and the volumes protruding above the ground do not rise above their surroundings on the site, which seemed an important point in shaping the attitude towards the context.
The embankment of the Water Drainage channel has been given an additional level at the water with a small amphitheatre and vegetation, which is an important element of the urban environment and public life. It is as much 'bursting' as the land, with spaces facing the water, linking the structure to the river, and the river to the city.
