Urban forest
Aleksandra Ilchegulova diploma project, 2022The main public space of the Krasnopresnensky district is located in a barn-like house with a pitched roof, situated at the center of the square. It engages in a dialogue with the Manege and large Moscow halls. The house's proportions create a unique public space due to the steep and high roof slope. Functionally, it serves as a museum, a theater with an 800-seat hall, a garden, and a library with a coworking space. Exhibitions are held here, performances are staged, people relax, study, and work. The house itself is metallic, made of panels of different sizes and shapes, reflecting the urban environment. Some panels are raised to create windows. Some of them open onto the square, inviting city residents. This building is surrounded by a forest of residential towers. Small sculptural cells are stacked vertically and connected by passages between the towers with stairs and elevators. The living area of these cells is minimized by deconstructing the typical plan. Their sculptural form is dictated by function, creating different life scenarios. In some places, the bed is elevated, in others, a table grows out of the wall. Below, in the square, you find yourself among thin towers rising far upwards. This offers a different perspective on how residential buildings and urban space can coexist. The shiny metal house is visible through the thin urban trunks.
